(Re-listing due to a cancelled order.)
This dainty minaudiere handbag dates from the 1940s, early 1950s. Minaudieres were very popular Vanity Handbags for lipstick, powder and cigarettes in Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s. Provenance of this one is unknown.
The fabric of the bag and handle is black satin fabric and the frame gold tone metal. There is some rust damage to the top of the frame on the left hand side and near the right handle. The handle is 2 strands of stiffened fabric, held together at the top and is slightly bent to one side when standing.
The fold over flap with press stud opens to reveal a slim envelope style pocket. Possibly for dance card, visiting cards or money. The clip then opens to reveal the minaudiere vanity box. This has a used Helena Rubenstein powder puff and compressed powder compact. There is a space for a lipstick and an empty box to the side for cigarettes.
The mirror is in good overall condition with a slight beveled edge. There are some tiny black marks on the silvering as in the photos.

Great to use at a Christmas party or a retro gift for a fashionista!
