It is very rare to find a used uchikake without marks, flaws or damage. Fantastic woven designs of flying cranes, an auspicious emblem. Very long sleeves. White lining. One size (M/L). Originally made for a Shinto wedding ceremony. The first photo is an example of this use, NOT the item for sale., Style: Kimono, Gender: Women's, Size: One Size (M/L), Main Colour: Ivory/Palest Gold, Material: Silk Blend, Region: Japan, Country/Region of Manufacture: Japan, Dettagli: Reduced to below cost price. This is a lovely vintage Japanese uchikake/wedding kimono/robe/coat, made of silk or silk blend fabric, with a beautiful design. The fabric is a lustrous ivory/palest gold tonal silk or silk blend, with a gorgeous all-over woven 'flying cranes' design. Cranes are an auspicious symbol for weddings, as they symbolise longevity, fidelity and good fortune. Uchikake is a type of kimono for a bride to wear. It is the top layer of the bridal costume, worn over the other layers of kimono. I have shown a photos of a Shinto bride in her wedding costume. This is for illustration purposes, NOT the uchikake for sale. It is a rare privilege to own an item such as this. Japanese brides pay hundreds of pounds just to HIRE an uchikake for their wedding day. This kimono would be perfect as traditional dress, as a glamorous coat, or as a theatre costume. Or for fancy dress/cosplay/manga. It would also look great hung on a wall for display, or for interior design. Simply thread a pole through the sleeves and hang, as shown. Fully lined in white synthetic fabric. The bottom hem is padded inside with cotton wadding, so that it hangs well and trails on the floor behind the wearer. Please note: as this uchikake has been hung for display for some time, the back has lightened slightly and is more ivory than gold, please check photos. In very good vintage condition apart from the slight fading mentioned, and there is a mark just above the hem at the front. See final photo. This would not show if displayed on a wall, as the back is usually the side presented. There is also a tiny mark on the lining. Traditional kimono styling, with square shaped, very long sleeves and a wrap front, which makes the fit adaptable. I estimate a ladies' size M/L. Sleeves of this length are considered to be 'sexy', and are therefore restricted to single girls and brides. Married ladies wear much shorter sleeves. Uchikake are meant to trail on the ground like the train of a wedding dress, if you wish to wear it in the traditional manner. This is a very long garment. One size, and would fit most ladies, certainly up to a size 14/16, depending on how many layers of clothing/kimono, you wish to wear under it.
