Pack of 5 fresh seeds of Dendrocalamus latiflorus (Taiwan Giant Bamboo) – with full instructions for germination
An extremely rare, giant clumping bamboo (non-invasive) native to Southern China and Taiwan, growing to heights of around 14-25 metres in the wild, and around 40 ft (12 m) within temperate Europe
The attractive culms (8-20 cm in diameter) are green and light blue, with yellow/orange peelings giving a striped appearance
Leaf-blades are lance-shaped and between 15-40 cm long and 8-20 cm wide Loves high rainfall!
They grow well on various soil types, but prefer moist and sandy loam, fertile soils. Aim for good drainage
Hardy to around -4 ºC (25ºF), the key is to keep the soil on the dry side during any frost (good drainage)
Bamboo seeds are not always available due to worldwide shortages of most species; this is because they rarely flower, sometimes only every 30 to even 100 years (called gregarious flowering) - this is why bamboo seeds are very rare
Height: 40 feet (12 m)
Hardiness: Hardy to -4ºC (25 ºF) - keep soil on drier side during any frost
Shelter from very cold winds
Sun Exposure: Eventually full sun to partial-shade, but keep plants under 1 year old out of direct sunlight
Soil: Moist, fertile and well-drained. Water well in hotter months but do not keep soil constantly wet during colder months
Propagation methods: Seeds, or division of clumps
Hurry while offer lasts, as we will only sell while the seed is still viable!
