This species is grown above all for food purposes and can certainly give an exotic touch to our garden and to our homes, in fact the specimens raised in pots can decorate terraces and balconies even if they must be kept away from drafts. The merit of this decorative power lies in the giant leaves which can be heart- or arrow-shaped and which can measure up to 80 centimeters in length and 40 in width. The species can reach a height of one and a half meters. It has spread particularly in tropical areas such as Nigeria, Ghana, Cambodia, Ivory Coast where it represents an important food base. A renowned flour is produced from its white rhizomes. while the leaves represent a certainly valid alternative to common vegetables, after cooking they are consumable in any way.
